Bharat Broadband Network Limited (BBNL) has installed WiFi hotspots in 43,558 Gram Panchayats (GPs) of which WiFi service delivery has commenced in 14,770 GPs.
For setting up WiFi hotspots at Gram Panchayats, the Telecom Commission had approved last mile connectivity model for providing WiFi connectivity to government institutes. At each GP, five WiFi access points are being set up and out of these three access points to be installed at government institutions and two access points to be installed at public places.

CSC SPV was assigned setting up of WiFi hotspots in Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Tripura and Karnataka whereas in Rajasthan it was through RISL (RajCOMP Info Services Limited). CSC SPV has also been assigned setting up of WiFi hotspots in another 5,000 Gram Panchayats. In addition, BSNL through USO Fund has been assigned setting up of WiFi hotspots at its 25,000 rural exchanges. WiFi hotspots have been installed at 23,660 exchanges and of these service delivery has commenced at 20,616 exchanges.
BharatNet has also provided 31,562 FTTH (Fiber To The Home) connections and SWAN (State Wide Area Network) connectivity to 5,202 gram panchayats pan-India.
