Tejas Networks bags Tata Trusts’ Railway WiFi

Tejas Networks has bagged Tata Trusts’ Railways WiFi project for enabling WiFi facilities at 4,791 railway stations in rural and remote areas across the country.

Tata Trusts has partnered with Indian Railways and RailTel to provide free WiFi at 4,791 railway stations spread across B, C, D and E category. Tata Trusts is providing infrastructure support by procuring, installing and configuring equipment to make the station WiFi enabled.

The idea behind providing free WiFi to small railway stations is to cater to rural/low population density areas by providing people with WiFi access through low cost smartphones which will go a long way in shaping digital growth for rural India.

Tata Trusts’ is a creating high speed network to be used by the government to provide retail and enterprise services. The Trusts also proposes to implement an Internet Kiosk and a Health Kiosk at these stations. Internet kiosks will help citizens to avail government services whereas health kiosks will facilitate health checkup for rural masses.

Tejas Networks is the technology and implementation partner for Tata Trusts’ Railway WiFi project and is supplying and implementing network equipment at 4,791 stations. The network is built using advanced GPON and Carrier Ethernet technologies.
