Tata Trust will provide high speed WiFi at 4,791 stations says Minister of Railways and Coal Piyush Goyal.
Indian Railways is fully committed to the Digital India initiative spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In this regard, providing high speed internet services to its passengers is a priority for Indian Railways.
Out of 8,738 stations, 6,441 stations have been planned to be given WiFi facility, excluding 2,297 halt stations. Presently, 832 stations have been equipped with WiFi facility and 775 more stations will be covered with WiFi service by March 2019. 4,791 stations will be taken up by TATA Trust and are targeted for commissioning progressively by 2nd September 2019, on the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.
In another development, Indian Railways will now shift from manual filing system to E-office for its day to day activities to bring transparency and efficiency in its functioning. RailTel, a Miniratna PSU under Ministry of Railways, has taken up the work of implementing e-Office system for Indian Railways.
E-office will benefit millions of employees of Indian Railways and will enhance transparency, accountability and innovation.
