RailTel and Google brings Wi-Fi at Sambalpur and Vizianagaram

RailTel in association with Google has commissioned Wi-Fi services at Sambalpur and Vizianagaram railway stations.

The Wi-Fi services is built over fiber network of RailTel and both the stations will provide high speed Internet experience to the commuters. Travelers passing through these stations will now be able to easily stream a high definition video while they’re waiting, researching destination, downloading a book or a new game for their journey.

RailTel is also planning to provide Wi-Fi services soon in Balasore, Bhadrak, Brahmapur, Jajpur-Keonjhar Road, Jharsuguda, Khurda Road, Rayagada, Rourkela, Anakapalle, Bhimavaram Town, Cuddapah, Eluru, Guntakal, Kakinada Town, Nellore, Rajahmundry, Renigunta, Samalkot, Tenali and Tuni.

RailTel, a Mini-Ratna PSU under Ministry of Railways has taken a lead in providing fast Wi-Fi at A1 & A category railway stations in India. RailTel has roped in Google as the technology partner for setting up fast Wi-Fi network covering 400 A1 & A category stations.

RailTel has completed 110 stations by the end of 2016 and has taken up a target of completing 200 stations by the end of 2017 and as on date 127 stations have been enabled with fast RailWire Wi-Fi. RailTel has around 6 million users per month across the stations.

Apart from this RailTel has also started working for providing Wi-Fi at 200 rural railway stations across India. A Digital Service Centre (DSC) will be set up in these stations to extend digital literacy and various online services to rural population.

Once implemented, RailWire Wi-Fi service will be one of the largest public Wi-Fi project in the World.
