
Speaking at the special plenary session of Telecom Convergence Summit organised by CII, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of Law & Justice and Electronics & IT said, “I am all for privacy but privacy should not be pushed beyond a point.”
“Data availability, data utility, data anonymity, data innovation and data privacy all have to work together. we have set up a committee under B.N Srikrishna and by next year we will come up with data protection law,” added Prasad.
The event focused on “Security and Privacy in the Digital World” and had tracks on Emerging Risks from Digital Technologies; Layered Telecom Network: Backbone, Access Network and User Devices; Data Security and Privacy in the Converged World; and Awareness and Skillets in Data Ocean.
Speaking at the plenary session, Umang Das, Chairman, CII National Sub-Committee on Telecom Infrastructure said, “Cyber security has become the backbone of the Government, Industries and enterprises now. Geographical distances or political boundaries do not matter because cyber-attacks can be launched from any corner of the world.”
“With the move towards a digital economy, increasing amount of consumer and citizen data will be stored digitally and a large number of transactions will be carried out online, by companies, individuals as well as government departments,” added Das.
Vishal Jain, Partner, Deloitte India commented, “The advent of the fourth industrial revolution has led to a significant adoption of new business models and technologies dependent on digital infrastructure. Organizations now need the right mix of the latest technology and security solutions, appropriate risk management and the right skillsets to ensure a truly secure ecosystem.”
Gaurav Agarwal, Managing Director, India & SAARC, Symantec said, “The biggest reservation with respect to cyber security is that investments in the past have not necessarily yielded the expected outcomes. Investments have been done on a variety of products from technologies that really don’t talk to each other and work in silos without resulting in true insight. Symantec and its integrated cyber defence platform solves this gap and helps our clients get more secure.”
Speaking at the opening session, Ravi Shankar Rai, Managing Director, Savitri Group said, “Cyber security is becoming more and more important as we gradually shift our activities to digital world. These threats are not visible and you may be attacked any time anywhere. In order to safeguard our digital world, we need to have a robust security mechanism in place. This should be the foremost priority for all stakeholders involved in driving the cyber security initiatives in India.”
Speaking at Data Security and Privacy session, Dr Haresh S Bhatt, Chairman, Information Security Implementation Board , ISRO-DOS said, “We have to start cyber security education program right from KG, primary, secondary, higher secondary, ITI, diploma, degree, post graduate and doctorate level and the syllabus should change after six months.”
