Microsoft has signed a definitive agreement to acquire communications software company Metaswitch Networks.
Metaswitch has been recognized as an independent developer of critical networking software, delivering products and solutions worldwide to more than 1,000 communications service providers and network equipment providers.
In a blog Martin Lund, CEO, Metaswitch Networks writes, “We built a continuously innovative, growing, well-respected and profitable business. We have fueled the telecommunications industry through multiple technology eras and evolutions, most recently pioneering the development of ultra-high-performance cloud native communications software.”
This software is underpinning modern cloud-based communication networks, in the core and at the edge, and has driven today’s announcement with Microsoft added Lund.
In April 2020, Metaswitch had announced that its Access Gateway Function (AGF) solution has been successfully tested by Vodafone for the industry’s first implementation of the 5G Wireless Wireline Convergence (WWC) AGF standard. The AGF in Metaswitch’s 5G Fusion Core solution is aligned with Broadband Forum and 3GPP specifications, and was tested in Vodafone Group labs in the UK.
