MeitY to fund AI, PE, big data and FOSS projects

The Ministry of IT & Electronics (MietY) is planning to fund projects in emerging areas of IT such as artificial intelligence (AI), perception engineering, big data analytics, green computing, digital preservation, free and open source software (FOSS) for societal applications.

The proposals should have thrust in areas with focus on innovation & indigenous technology development and demonstration leading to commercialisation/deployment.

The projects should be time-bound normally for duration of 2-3 years depending upon the technologies to be developed. The shortlisted project proposals will be considered for funding from FY2018-19.

The R&D project proposals for financial support may be submitted by engineers/technologists/management specialists/scientists and faculty members working in universities/academic institutions/registered scientific societies/R&D institutions/laboratories/autonomous R&D organizations of the government having adequate infrastructural facilities to carry out R&D activities.

The proposals may be single or multi-institutional, with defined milestones/timelines and roles of individual institutions. The Project proposals should have clear objectives, scope, outcome and quantifiable deliverables. Preference will be given to proposal(s) with user/Industry contributions either in cash or kind and tie-up with production agency.

An Expert Group (working group on R&D in IT) would consider the proposals for feasibility and carry out technical and financial evaluation and accordingly recommend for financial support by MeitY. Appraised projects are processed further based on the recommendations of working group and the priority areas of the department.
