MediaTek, one of world’s largest fabless semiconductor companies has announced the opening up of its new facility in Bengaluru, the Silicon Valley of India.
The new sprawling facility located at RMZ Eco World in Marathalli will provide R&D, sales and marketing support to MediaTek India. The new facility adds to MediaTek’s presence in Bengaluru – since 2014 the company has had a facility in Bellandur – and is a step to fulfill MediaTek’s overall commitment to strengthen its presence in India and the Asia-Pacific region.
The Bengaluru office will support growing MediaTek India’s business in emerging smartphone technology and other key technology sectors such as 5G, imaging and automotive. It will also enhance the fabless semiconductor company’s role in smart city, startup India and digital India projects.
While congratulating MediaTek on the new office, State Minister Priyank Kharge said, “MediaTek’s initiative bears testimony to global technology leader’s confidence in Karnataka and India as a home for R&D and innovation. With this commitment from MediaTek, I believe its focus on having Karnataka as an R&D hub will be even stronger and more extensive over time.”
MediaTek’s Co-Chief Operating Officer & Executive VP Jeffrey Ju said, “The new MediaTek facilities – Bengaluru and in Mumbai – demonstrate our confidence in India’s growth infused economy as a key center of global innovation. MediaTek is about making great technology available to everyone. India is a shining example of how connecting billions of people and devices can help enhance how we all live, work or play.”
MediaTek’s chipsets and technology power more than 1.5 billion consumer products annually – the range includes mobile phones, TVs, set-top boxes, DVD players, routers, tablets, fitness bands, smart watches and gaming stations.
Among recent initiatives, the company has undertaken design and development work for automotive solutions. Its long-term vision encompasses critical areas of safety and autonomous driving, for which it is looking at Vision-based Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Precision Millimetre Wave (mmWave) Radar, among other innovations.
MediaTek has recently announced its support for Google Assistant and Android Things, through which MediaTek will be able to deliver an exceptional smart-home user experience with seamless interaction between voice command devices and IoT products.
