The Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) has sought an explanation from Facebook seeking a detailed factual report over data sharing issue.
Facebook has been asked to respond by 20th June on the issue of media reports claiming that Facebook has agreements with Huawei and others mobile manufacturers’ access to its users’ personal information, including that of their friends without taking their explicit consent.
The social media company Facebook said Huawei, computer maker Lenovo Group and smartphone makers OPPO and TCL were among about 60 companies worldwide that received access to some user data after they signed contracts to recreate Facebook-like experiences for their users.
Recently, in the case Cambridge Analytica episode, Facebook had apologised and given strong assurances to the Government of India that they would take sincere efforts to protect the privacy of users’ data on the platform however, such reports raise uncomfortable questions about the assurances made by Facebook.
