Cabinet approves mobile connectivity project worth Rs. 7,330 Cr in LWE states

The union cabinet has approved Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) of Rs. 7,330 crore to provide mobile connectivity services in Left Wing Extremism (LWE) states.

The USOF Fund will be utilised to set up 4,072 tower locations identified by MHA in inhabited uncovered areas affected by Left Wing Extremism (LWE) of 96 districts in 10 states for Phase-ll project.

This network would be used by the security personnel deployed in LWE affected areas. Project will also provide mobile services to help the residents in unconnected inhabited villages which would improve the economic activities in the region. It will give impetus to the e-Governance activities in the backward and LWE affected area with the availability of digital mobile connectivity.

  • Chhattisgarh – 1,028
  • Jharkhand – 1,054
  • Madhya Pradesh – 26
  • Maharashtra – 136
  • Odisha – 483
  • Telangana – 118
  • Uttar Pradesh – 179
  • West Bengal – 207

The LWE phase-l project for providing the mobile services using 2G technology in LWE Areas with a total sanctioned cost of Rs, 4,080.78 crore is on completion. Total of 2,335 sites are radiating out of total 2,355 as on date.
