BSNL deploys 25,000 WiFi hotspots pan-India

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has deployed 25,000 hotspots pan-India at 11,000 locations with international standards, speed, scalability, security and quality of service.

The company has WiFi enabled more than 3,000+ villages pan-India. More than 600,00 logins are every month and around 10,000 subscribers concurrently access BSNL WiFi services each day.

The company has deployed WiFi across high footfall areas such as university campuses, schools, colleges, hospitals, public places, post offices, government offices, parks, gram panchayats, villages, health centres, tourist places and heritage sites pan-India with speeds varying from 2 Mbps to 20 Mbps. All WiFi hotspots are centrally manageable, monitorable and maintainable with higher degree of availability.

BSNL WiFi Hotspots Deployment:

  • Public Private Partnership Model – 11,700 WiFi hotspots through QuadGen, Trimax and GOIP
  • Capex Model – 8,900 WiFi hotspots through L&T and HFCL
  • USOF Rural Exchange Project – WiFi at 4,700 rural telephone exchanges
  • USOF Pilot Project – 200 Gram Panchayats

BSNL has taken lead in WiFi thanks to its multi-pronged WiFi strategy – Public Private Partnership, Capex, USOF (Universal Service Obligation Fund) – Rural Exchange and Pilot Project. For Public Private Partnership the company has tied up with QuadGen (South and West), Trimax (North) and GOIP (East). For Capex Model, the company has tied up with L&T for South and West Zone and HFCL for East and North Zone.

In FY2018-19, BSNL plans to deploy 43,000 hotspots pan-India through Public Private Partnership, Capex, USOF Rural Exchange Project and USOF Pilot Project.

BSNL has recently bagged six awards at My India WiFi India Summit & Awards 2018 organised by DigiAnalysys in New Delhi. BSNL has won the most coveted Best WiFi Service provider followed by Best WiFi Service Provider (East), Best WiFi Service Provider (South), Best WiFi Service Provider (North).
